Nine children dead in explosion near Pak-Afghan border

Nine children died in an explosion in eastern Afghanistan on Monday. The blast occurred near the Pak-Afghan border. Four people also sustained injuries due to the blast.

According to the governor from the Taliban government, a food cart collided with a yet-to-be-exploded mortar shell. The incident took place at the Nangarhar province, Lalopar district.

Reportedly, the area comes under the rule of the Islamic State group (IS) – the rival faction of the Taliban. IS has been involved in targeting Shia Muslims and has carried out multiple attacks.
