New York City bans TikTok

New York: On Wednesday, New York City banned government-owned devices to download TikTok as several states & cities of the US have put restrictions on the video-sharing platform. The US seem to believe that TikTok will violate security restrictions even though TikTok has ensured that it will not share US-based data with the government of China.

The administration of New York City Mayor Eric Adams in a statement said that TikTok has posed a security threat to the technical networks of New York. All agencies are directed to remove the app in one month.

FBA and CIA have also termed TikTok as a potential threat and stated that China could use the application to drive a narrative to divide Americans and harm national security. Recently, Montana also banned the app across the state, however, the decision was legally challenged.

TikTok is facing tough times in the US as a survey from Reuters unveil that half of American adults support a ban on TikTok.
