Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has released the directives to abolish the extra marks policy for Hafiz-e-Quran. In the new medical college admission policy, all Hafiz-e-Quran students will no longer receive additional marks.
Previously, candidates who were Hafiz-e-Quran used to receive 20 grace marks. However, this policy came under scrutiny by the Supreme Court. In April, Justice Ijazul Ahsan led a six-member bench which was notified that the policy of rewarding additional marks to Hafiz-e-Quran had already been revoked.
The new amendments in the admission policy have designed a more equitable merit-based system that ensures all candidates would compete on a level playing field for medical & dental college admissions across Punjab, regardless of their qualifications.
