Muslim world could celebrate ‘same day Eid’

ISLAMABAD: The anticipation for Eid-ul-Fitr has reached a crescendo as the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee gears up for a crucial meeting here today. With the moon having remained out of sight on Monday, various countries around the globe will celebrate Eid on Wednesday, potentially setting the stage for a synchronised Eid celebration across the Muslim world.

Joining the ranks of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kuwait, Australia has also declared that Eid will grace its shores on Wednesday, as reported by Gulf-based newspapers.

The centre-stage for today’s deliberations will be the rooftop of the Federal Secretariat’s Kohsar Block in Islamabad, where the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee will diligently check the skies for the Shawwal crescent. Concurrently, zonal and district Ruet-i-Hilal committees will convene at their respective headquarters to assist in the celestial quest.
