Might go to IMF again if exports didn’t improve, warns PM Imran

Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan warned that the government might be forced to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) again if the exports situation did not improve in Pakistan. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 14th International Chambers Summit 2022 in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

He said his government is focussed on improving the tax collection and exports since both of them play an important role in boosting the economy. The prime minister claimed that the economy was improving despite the many hurdles including the Covid-19-induced economic difficulties and ‘imported inflation’, referring to the increase in prices of food commodities globally.

Mr Khan claimed that the United Kingdom was following in the footsteps of his government to battle the economic difficulties caused by Covid-19. He also took the opportunity to say that his government was committed towards resolving the issues being forced by the business community especially the exporters in Pakistan.

He acknowledged the need for improvement in exports, stating: “We might have to go to the IMF if the exports did not grow.”
