LONDON: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has been dropped from the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) radio show after it was revealed that he had made racist remarks against his South Asian team mates during his time with them at Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
Vaughan allegedly told his South Asian team mates, “Too many of you lot, we need to do something about it.”
The former English skipper has denied the allegations. BBC in their statement said that they have strict policies against racism.,
“[We] take any allegations of racism extremely seriously. The allegation against Michael Vaughan pre-dates his time working for the BBC, we were not part of the investigation conducted by Yorkshire County Cricket Club and we have had no access to the subsequent report. However, we were made aware of a single allegation which Michael strongly denies and we have been monitoring the situation closely. We have made the editorial decision that Michael won’t appear as a presenter on 5 Live’s Tuffers and Vaughan Show on Monday.”
Meanwhile, Roger Hutton, YCC Chairman, resigned from his post in the aftermath of the racism turmoil the club has been involved in for the last four years, stating that the club was unable to tackle the situation properly.
Azeem Rafiq, who belongs to Pakistan, was the captain of England’s Under-19 team and has played for Yorkshire during which he is said to have received racist remarks, passed off as ‘banter’, by his former English team mates.
