Meta announces to charge fee for Blue Tick on Facebook and Instagram

Meta, the parent company of social networking sites Facebook and Instagram, has announced that it will provide verified accounts to its users in return for a monthly fee. According to media news, Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of Meta, announced the launch of the paid subscription service on Sunday.

As per the new announcement, Facebook users will now have to pay a monthly fee of $11.99 to verify their accounts. Mark Zuckerberg believes that the new feature will increase the security and transparency of key services of Meta.

The new feature of Facebook and Instagram will be launched in Australia and New Zealand this week. The Blue Tick subscription will be launched later in the US and other countries. The decision to take a fee for the blue tick is similar to the policy by Twitter for its verification process. Recently, Meta has been working on increasing security through a number of different features. Earlier, Meta announced to actively working on a new tool ‘Take It Down’ to prevent crimes against teenagers.

Take It Down will fight against crimes like revenge porn which has significantly increased in the past few years. Several teenagers became the target of the crime and were deprived of their mental health. Subsequently, their reputation and relationships also suffered. 

The tool will help minors to attach a fingerprint or hash to their intimate photos from their devices and an anonymous code of pictures will be stored in Meta’s database. If anyone tries to post that picture, it will be removed from the platforms after the review process. Take It Down is available for teens. Parents can also use it on behalf of their children.
