Melbourne offers to host India-Pak Test match

Australia’s iconic cricket stadium – the Melbourne Cricket Ground, also known as the MCG, is interested in hosting the arch rivals India and Pakistan for a Test match. The two sides haven’t locked horns with each other in the longest format of the game since 2007.

The two teams, however, have been competing with each other only at the ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup. Bilateral series have not been played between India and Pakistan since 2012-2013 when India last hosted Pakistan for three ODIs and two T20Is.

According to the MCC Chief Executive Stuart Fox the atmosphere in the recently played India-Pakistan T20I game at the T20 World Cup was unbelievable. MCC is hopeful that filling up the venue for a potential Test match would not be any problem.

While the MCC understands the challenge hosting an India-Pakistan Test match poses, it has taken up the matter with Cricket Australia. Meanwhile, the Victoria government also seems interested in bringing the two arch-rivals at the MCG to play a historic Test match.
