LHC orders DPO to expedite submission of challan in Sialkot lynching case

Sialkot Lynching

NAROWAL: The Sialkot District Police Officer Omar Saeed Malik was directed on Tuesday by the Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti to speed up the completion and submission of challan in connection with the Sialkot lynching case.

The orders were issued by him while visiting the District Judicial Complex.

He was briefed by DPO Malik regarding the updates on the Sialkot lynching case. The Punjab police has so far arrested over 900 people on the suspicion of beating and torturing the Sri Lankan national Priyantha Kumara to death. Kumara was killed earlier this month by a mob that had accused him of committing blasphemy.

His killing was soon declared an inhumane act and self-declared vigilantism by the Ulema. Prime Minister Imran Khan had also promised to take stern action against the killers stating that those involved would be handed exemplary punishment.

Maulana Tariq Jamil had also met the Sri Lankan High Commissioner Mohan Wijewickrama last week in Islamabad stating that the nation was ashamed at the act.
