Lahore High Court orders 50 per cent attendance in offices

LAHORE: In a hearing regarding the environmental issues of the city at Lahore High Court (LHC) earlier today, the Punjab government has been directed to halve the attendance in offices across the city.

Justice Shahid Karim was heading the hearing and issued the directives to encounter the dreadful smog condition in the provincial capital. Lahore has been on top of the list of most polluted cities due to poor air quality. The smog issue arises in the winter season as the rice-producing regions are covering the city.

Regarding the schools, the Judicial Water and Environmental Commission suggested a closure in areas where smog is creating most of the issues. However, the LHC did not approve the recommendation.

The Punjab government is also directed to set an emergency helpline for traffic hazards and a smog cell in the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
