Flour prices rise up as wheat costs surge

Karachi: Following the trend of the rise in prices of other essential commodities, flour prices have also increased. The primary reason is said to be a surge in the rate of wheat.

Chairman of the Wholesale Grocers Association Abdul Rauf Ibrahim said that the in the wholesale market, wheat price increased by Rs13 per kilo. Hence the per kilo rate of flour jumped from Rs150 to Rs160.
Ibrahim said that an ‘artificial shortage’ of wheat in interior Sindh and the open market of Karachi has been created by the hoarding mafia.

Currently, a bag of 100/kg wheat in Karachi is available at Rs 13,200. On the other hand, an Rs10 hike also occurred in the prices of mill flour, ex-mill flour and fine flour.

After the inflation, mill flour is available at Rs170 per kg, ex-mill flour at Rs160 per kg, and fine flour at Rs150 per kg.
