Highest inflation in two years recorded in May at 13.76pc

KARACHI: According to the data shared by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the metric used to measure inflation showed that it has risen to the highest point since May 2020, recorded at 13.76 per cent.

The high inflation is attributed to the rising transportations costs and food prices. The inflation has risen to 13.76pc from 13.37pc in April. The PBS data showed that the inflation grew by 12.36pc in cities and 15.88pc in rural areas including villages and small towns.

The highest inflation was recorded in the transport sector with an increase of 31.7pc. In the food sector, the inflation was increased by 17.25pc.

Pakistan has been under tremendous economic pressure as the country battles hard to ward off the the threat of bankruptcy.
