Karachi continues to face the issue of resources’ shortages as almost 38 graveyards run by the Municipal Authority have no space for more graves. While talking to a private news channel, the Senior Director of Municipal Mazhar Khan said they had submitted the request to the Sindh government for additional land.
He briefed that a total of 400 acres had been demanded of the government in each district for graveyards.
The situation of graveyards is alarming because reports claim that gravediggers have illegally sold spots for graves multiple times. On average, 15 to 20 funerals arrive at a graveyard each day, but due to lack of space, they have to use graveyards run by Non-profitable organisations.
