KARACHI: In an interview with Samaa News, the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin has said that the government would place a ban on importing the CBU vehicles for six to nine months.
He also added that imports that played no major role were under their radar, and soon action would be taken against them.
About 10,513 new vehicles were imported in FY21, while the country imported 1,680 vehicles during FY20, 3,716 in FY19 and 7,424 during the FY18. During the initial two months of FY22, $103 million worth of CBU vehicles have already been imported by car companies.
Earlier the government provided tax relaxation on CBU car imports so that the companies after testing the products could contribute to the local production. But the goal wasn’t achieved as car companies kept on taking new orders without playing any supportive part in the local production.
