Four infrastructure projects approved by ECNEC

ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, four development projects were approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). The projects cost around Rs265 billion.

Adviser Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin chaired the ECNEC meeting where the projects were approved. The approved projects include the delayed Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway. The construction of the motorway got delayed earlier and will now be completed through a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract.

The completion of the project will cost Rs191.5 billion. The National Highway Authority (NHA) will be responsible for the execution of the project.

The Lai Expressway and Flood Channel land Acquisition, worth Rs25 billion also got approval. However, the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report needs to be approved by the Public Private Partnership Authority Board before any expenditures can be incurred.

Other projects approved by the committee includes Rawalpindi Ring Road (R3) construction, which will cost Rs23.6 billion and Southern Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP) amounting to Rs25.2 billion.
