A short circuit in a dressing room of Eden Gardens stadium caused a serious fire. The incident occurred during renovation work ahead of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
After the fire, the equipment and kit of players in the room got burnt to ashes. The fire department immediately arrived at the Eden Gardens stadium with two engines to bring the fire under control after several hours of effort.

Eden Gardens has to host five matches of the much-anticipated tournament, including the World Cup semi-final. Pakistan will play two matches here as they face Bangladesh on October 31 and England on November 11. Earlier, ICC rescheduled three matches of Pakistan amid different festivals in India. As per the new schedule:
- Pakistan vs Sri Lanka will take place on October 10
- Pakistan vs India will take place on October 14
- Pakistan vs England will take place on November 11
