KARACHI: Director-General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Dr Sanaullah Abbasi has announced an in-depth investigation on the cryptocurrency scam in Pakistan. The scam was revealed earlier this month.
On Saturday, a meeting was held at the zonal headquarters of FIA Sindh. Dr Abbasi chaired the meeting which was attended by Director FIA Sindh Amir Farooqi, Additional Director-General of South Zone Shakeel Durrani, and other senior officials. Farooqi briefed DG FIA that 11 Binance-linked applications were involved in the $100 million scam. The FIA cybercrime has issued a notice to Binance following the investigation of the incident.
On Sunday, another meeting was called in which the crackdown to stop the smuggling of US dollars to Afghanistan was inspected by Dr Abbasi. He gave the officials concerned the instructions to expedite the matter for quick results.
