Fawad Chaudhry apologises to ECP

Fawad Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry apologised verbally to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the chief election commissioner (CEC) on Tuesday. He has been asked to submit a written apology as well.

Fawad Chaudhry, along with Railway Minister Azam Swati, had been issued a show-cause notice by the  ECP on October 27 after failing to turn up for the hearing. Chaudhry appeared before a two-member bench, hoping to put an end to the case.

He said, “My request is that this case is finished. I am a lawyer myself. I am a mouthpiece of the government. I did not curse anyone. Accept my apology.”

Swati, on the other hand, did not appear at the hearing today citing his commitment with the Senate proceedings. His lawyer said that a reply would be filed by tomorrow. The ECP has adjourned the hearing to December 3.
