Will they? Won’t they? FATF to decide Pakistan’s fate today

All eyes are set on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) – the global money-laundering and terror-financing watchdog, as it decides the fate of Pakistan today. Pakistan has been on the body’s grey list since June 2018.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had complied with 26 of the 27 required actions by the FATF to be removed from the list. Some of the PTI leaders earlier today took to Twitter to announce that Pakistan had been removed from the list.

However, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar soon tweeted that the plenary meetings were still going on in Berlin and that speculative reporting should be avoided.

Some media outlets have reported that China has been lobbying at FATF to take Pakistan off of the grey list.
