Farhan Akhtar is known for his innovative craft of filmmaking with films like Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshaya, and Positive. But his claim to fame has been the DON franchise where his work with Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) got worldwide admiration. Farhan has buckled up for another DON instalment but this time without SRK.
According to his post on his Instagram handle, Farhan Akhtar said his father Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan created the iconic character that was played by Amitabh Bachan. He recalled that in 2006, he reimagined DON with SRK and did two instalments of the franchise. Farhan added that working with SRK is a close memory for him.
However, his post made it clear that the new version of DON won’t have SRK as the majestic evil protagonist. Farhan said that a time has come to take the legacy of DON forward a new interpretation will be portrayed by a talented and versatile actor.
The director-actor hoped that the public will show the same admiration for Mr Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan for the new era of DON in 2025. But the comment section got flooded with the demand of bringing SRK back as the stylish gangster.
Several people commented that there is no point in seeing the movie without SRK. Fans have even threatened to boycott the franchise if SRK is not going to play the legendary character.
