After the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket (ICEC) issued a report on racism and discrimination in the English Cricket system, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has apologised to individuals who faced discrimination.

The ICEC, formed by ECB in 2021, in its report has concluded that there is evidence of discrimination & racism in the game and has provided 44 recommendations to combat the challenge. The report said that ECB has failed to prevent class-based discrimination, sexism, and Institutional & structural racism.

Following the report, ECB has acknowledged that there is a need for change and has said that they would work to form a plan aligned with recommendations by ICEC. ECB added that it unreservedly apologises to those who suffered.

Richard Thompson, Chairperson ECB, said that for the consultation process, Deputy CEO Clare Connor has been appointed as head and would have support from other board members, including Richard Gould, Ron Kalifa, Ebony Rainford-Brent, Pete Ackerley, and Zahida Manzoor.
