Dr Aafia Siddiqui meets her sister after 20 years

After 20 years, Dr Fauzia was able to meet her sister Dr Aafia Siddiqui at the prison hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Both met for the first time in two decades on Tuesday and then had a follow-up meeting on Wednesday (31-05-23) and Thursday (1-06-2023).

Aftab Chaudhary, Pakistan’s Consul General in Houston, Senator Mushtaq and Dr Aafia’s American lawyer Clive Smith were present during the meetings to seek her release. Aafia had lost her front teeth in an assault in prison and also had difficulty hearing due to an injury on her head.

Dr Fauzia met her sister through a thick glass wall separation. She was neither allowed to hug her sister nor to show her any pictures of family & children. Dr Aafia was also unaware of her mother’s demise. She repeatedly asked to get her out of this hell.

Dr Aafia is serving an 86-year sentence on the charges of attempting murder. She was detained in 2008 for being involved in the 9/11 attacks.
