Dengue, malaria spreading at alarming rate in Sindh

KARACHI: According to Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, more than 4,000 cases of dengue and malaria have been reported in the province in the last two weeks. He made the remarks at a meeting chaired by the chief minister.

Memon revealed that at least nine people in Karachi had lost their lives to dengue in the last 14 days. Of the 15,101 people tested for malaria, 3,072 tested positive.

While Larkana remains the only major city where not a single case of dengue has been confirmed, the mosquito-induced illness is spreading at an alarming rate in other parts of the province. Karachi, in particular, has seen a sharp rise in the number of dengue cases owing to inundated and stagnant water on streets following heavy monsoon rains.
