ISLAMABAD: The data shared by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) indicates that the Covid surge, driven primarily by the Omicron variant, is going strong in the country. Pakistan has reported more than 4,000 confirmed Covid cases in the past 24 hours for the second consecutive day.

Of the 51,236 tests conducted, 4,027 people tested positive. The current test positivity ratio is 7.8 per cent, slightly less than from it was yesterday. According to the NCOC, nine Covid-related deaths were reported with 752 patients still remaining under critical care.

Despite the surge in Covid cases, the largest city of the country – Karachi – is holding a three-day Karachi Eat Festival. Amid growing concerns of the event potentially being a super-spreader, the management of the Karachi Eat Festival did not cancel the event. According to the experts, the country could witness the fallout by the end of next week.
