On Wednesday, the State of California and Punjab have been declared sister-states till December 2026, after a resolution was passed in the Senate of California on Wednesday.
The press release issued by the Californian Assembly stated that the relationship would strengthen the ties in the area of culture, economy, education, and mutual trade between the two regions. It added that both states add value to the country’s economy through agriculture, and Punjab has been the centre of Pakistan’s economy and culture.
Senator of California Senate Sydney Kamlager presented the resolution which was approved after 36 majority votes. Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar tweeted a thank you note for the US state and called the step a great outcome.

Pakistan Consulate-General Los Angeles also termed the event as a step towards cooperation and development in their tweet.
The California State Senate has passed a Bill for the establishment of a sister state relationship between California and Punjab, Pakistan. The Bill is expected to increase the potential for educational, environmental and cultural cooperation between the two regions.
