Bomb blast kills eight in Mogadishu

Mogadishu

MOGADISHU: On Thursday, a bombing incident near a school here left eight dead and scores of people including students injured. The militant group Al Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack, which in the past, has carried out similar activities as a fight against the Somalian government.

According to the Principal of the school Yusuf Hussein, the attack took place around 7:30am, blowing the walls of the school and injuring several students who were rushed to the nearby hospitals.

“You can understand how it feels when many students, mostly children, came under attack as school rooms collapsed,” said Hussein.

Prime Minister of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble has condemned the attack, saying that militant group had gone too far as it was now attacking innocent civilians.

“This ruthless act clearly indicates how far this twisted group went to shed the blood of innocent civilians indiscriminately,” stated the prime minister.

According to the spokesperson for the Somalian police, the attack injured 17 people while eight lost their lives. The security officials said that a car bomb was used in the attack.

In September, the militant group had claimed the responsibility for the attacks near the Mogadishu checkpoint and presidential palace in which 17 people had died.
