Ben Stokes named England Test captain

English all-rounder Ben Stokes has been named the Test captain for England’s men’s Test team following the resignation of Joe Root. Stokes was already in contention to lead the England Test side due to his immaculate all-round record.

With Stokes taking over the captaincy from Root, he has become the 81st player who would hold the reins of the England’s Test side for now. His appointment was approved late Tuesday following recommendations by the England Cricket Board’s latest inductee Rob Key who is the new managing director of men’s cricket.

The experienced all-rounder made his Test debut against Australia back in 2013 at Adelaide. He has amassed over 5,000 Test runs and picked 174 Test wickets. He has played 79 Tests till now.
