LAHORE: In the violent turn of events following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, people reportedly resorted to violence at the residence of the corps commander in Lahore. During this, the media aired video of a masked young man with a peacock in his hand which was reportedly being taken from the corps commander’s residence (Jinnah House).
The video instantly got viral on social media platform. Later, several YouTubers identified the masked man who claimed that he was only ‘rescuing’ the bird during the violence. The boy, who is said to be student of intermediate, further showed a handwritten receipt and claimed that he has returned the peacock to its rightful owners.
However, the explanatory statement did not help this young man and he was eventually arrested by the Punjab Police. Following the arrest, a picture again got viral showing the young man sitting in a police vehicle flanked by a policeman.
On Thursday, some Twitter users claimed that the young man had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stealing peacock from the corps commander’s residence. Some claimed that he is an FSC student and his final exams are going to be held in a week, but its alarming that now he has been sent to jail for 10 years for taking away a peacock.

After this ‘news’ went viral, many social media users took to their screens to voice opinion on the matter. They observed that it wasn’t right to sentence a student to 10 years imprisonment and that he should be given a second chance.
However, then some saner voices jumped in to clarify the situation, as lawyers informed that this can’t be true that a verdict be announced in such short time, as not event the military court complete case proceedings and announce verdict in a week’s time.
Then journalist took it upon themselves to attain credible information in order to settle the rumours regarding the sentencing of the young man for 10 years.
It came out that there was no truth in the news of the peacock ‘thief’ being punished and the authorities categorically dismissed any such news as fabricated.
According to the information shared by journalists, the police have arrested more than 3,500 people on the charge of violent protests and attacks on military installations across Punjab, however, the challan in the case of not even a single accused has been submitted yet before any court in Punjab.
According to the department of prosecution, no criminal has been convicted yet and the trial of any accused has not started. The suspects who allegedly set fire to the residence of corps commander in Lahore are still being identification and the court has kept 80 people in judicial custody to carry out identification parade.
