LAS VEGAS: The popular Pakistan-based US singer Arooj Aftab has become the first Pakistani female singer to win a Grammy Award for her composition ‘Mohabbat‘.
Arooj has been residing in New York and has received global applause for her work in the music industry. The singer has introduced a fusion of minimalism and jazz with folk tones and traditional Sufi music. The 37-year-old artist is also nominated for the Grammy Best New Artist prize that will air on Sunday.
Arooj called the moment ‘thrilling and great’, stating that she was nervous all day. Her song ‘Mohabbat‘ gained international recognition when Barack Obama, former US president, added it to his favourites list in 2021.
