ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the Taliban government in Afghanistan would be invited to the ministerial meeting in China, where they would discuss the future developments regarding Afghanistan.

“Afghanistan’s interim government will also be invited to the next meeting of Afghanistan’s neighbours,” said the foreign minister.

The meeting will be attended by Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, China, Iran, and Pakistan. Islamabad hosted the inaugural meeting that took place on September 8, followed by Iran hosting the second meeting. At the time, the Taliban government did not receive an invitation as the governments of other countries were reluctant in engaging with them.

However, the situation seems to be changing now for Afghanistan as many countries are now in touch with the war-torn country’s interim government. The next ministerial meeting is expected to take place in early 2022.
